Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift.
Imagine there is a bank account that credits your account each morning with $86,400. It carries over no balance from day to day.
Every evening the bank deletes whatever part of the balance you failed to use during the day.
What would you do? Draw out every cent, of course!
Each of us has such a bank. It’s name is TIME.
Every morning, it credits you with 86,400 seconds.
Every night it writes off as lost, whatever of this you have failed to invest to a good purpose.
It carries over no balance. It allows no over draft. Each day it opens a new account for you. Each night it burns the remains of the day.
If you fail to use the day’s deposits, the loss is yours. There is no drawing against “tomorrow.”
You must live in the present on today’s deposits. Invest it so as to get from it the utmost in health, happiness and success!
The clock is running!! Make the most of today.
To realise the value of one year, ask a student who failed a grade.
To realise the value of one month, ask a mother who has given birth to a premature baby.
To realise the value of one week, ask the editor of a weekly newspaper.
To realise the value of one hour, ask the lovers who are waiting to meet.
To realise the value of one minute, ask a person who just missed a train.
To realise the value of one second, ask someone who just avoided an accident.
To realise the value of one millisecond, ask the person who won a silver medal at the olympics.
Treasure every moment that you have! And treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time with. And remember time waits for no one.
Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That’s why its called the present.

Today is a gift!
Reading this was worth every second.
A man was relaxing on the grass and looking up at the clouds. He was picking out shapes when he decided to talk to God.
“God,” he asked, “how long is a million years?”
Amazingly, God answered. “In my frame of reference, it’s about a minute.”
The man asked, “God, how much is a million dollars?”
God said, “To me, it’s a penny.”
Intrigued, the man asked, “God, may I have a penny?”
And God replied, “Sure…just a minute.”
(To which a disgruntled paperboy then added, “I…want…my…TWO DOLLARS!!!!”) xD
Hey,
Beagle Scout, I know the story. Its amazing, and I have to congratulate you for adding such a value…
But, the problem is, I never understood the essence of that story, the bottom line. Can you reveal it for me (clearly)?
Hi lonutz,
The basic meaning of that story is that the definitions mankind assigns to things are different from those that God applies, and that hard work — not just simple wishing — is essential in making one’s dreams come true. The man wants a million dollars (his view, our view of what a million bucks looks like) in a minute. God is being tongue-in-cheek by saying he’ll give him a penny (God’s view in perspective of what a million dollars looks like) in a minute (a million years in our time). Moral of the story being “God helps those who help themselves,” or the old “give me a fish and I’ll eat for a minute; teach me to fish and I’ll eat for a lifetime.” In other words, the value of self-determinism.
The humorous addendum is that two dollars to a 10-year-old paperboy is probably twenty million to John Cusack.

Time has a way of sliding out of our hands
if we let it. Thanks for the reminder to hold tight.
There once was a woman who removed a spoonful of earth from her backyard each morning. She did this first thing, day after day, as a way of remembering that one day she too would be six feet under. Making the most of each spoonful isn’t necessarily that easy, but in the end I think we’ll be glad we did.
Was the paperboy talking to God too? If so, then the paperboy was going to get more money from God than the other guy, he only asked for a penny……Its seems like there is lots that can you pull from that story, I guess its up to the mind…But I think it really shows the difference of our scale and God’s scale
Just my 2 cents(2 million)….lol
@ ImFly25_7 Lol, the two dollars thing is from 1985′s “Better Off Dead,” a hilarious ’80s teen comedy film (and John Cusack’s debut starring role), in which his girlfriend breaks up with him and then everything else goes wrong. including the fact that his parents stiffed the paperboy and now the kid is going ballistic stalking him to reclaim “lost wages.” As a result he tries to do himself in but realizes that there’s more to life than just some stupid girl who shafted him senior year. (Like the cute French girl next door.)
There’s lots you can pull from that story too, including this quote from the guy who plays Cusack’s buddy (and who earlier was Booger in Revenge of the Nerds), about the importance of sticking things out even in tough times: “Dying when you’re not really sick is…really sick! I mean, really!”
It’s a really funny movie that also has Claymation hamburgers dancing to Van Halen.
Typo on your username. I guess it wouldn’t be too bad to have an extra hour in the day to be “fly”!
Realy we can’t vest time
I absolutely love this post and have a link to it on my website. if only we truly valued the time we have EVERY day-How much different would our lives be?

Time is gold… time is money!
Regards to all and God bless.
reading this reminded me to fully utilize my time
Jose, I understand the message your trying to convey, however, time has a far greater value than “gold or money”. It’s important that we keep in mind that time the tool we have been given to complete the purpose for which we were born and has a far greater value than any dollar amount.
Great read, this makes me more aware on how valuable time is and gets me to focus on things that really matter. i’m going to read this everyday upon waking, i’m thankful you posted this.
