Using visual aids to deliver your speech

One of the tricks that beginners and pro speakers use often are power point presentations, not only that they reflect the focus from them to the visual presentation, they also have the notes built in them, thus knowing what to say next. And did I mention that it will dramatically increase your audience attention span?

Here are a few tips on how to efficiently use power point in your advantage:

  1. Write as little text as possible per slide, as a rule of thumb, not more than 6-8 lines.
  2. Use descriptive pictures in your presentation, no matter how “corporate” your audience is, everybody enjoys relevant images, don’t overdue it thou
  3. Have at least 1 slide for each idea
  4. Don’t create too many slides and don’t put endless loop animations or your audience will get annoyed and distracted
  5. If you want to use text/picture appearing effects use subtle ones, but I would advise you to do not use them
  6. Use a nice appropriate theme for your topic, try to avoid default ones and get free ones online
  7. Create your special ending so that people could remember you by, for example Tony Robbins is known for: “Live with passion!”
