Speed Reading
I took a course in touch-typing long long time ago, and it so greatly helped me with everything in my life (so much work is done on the computer)..
I recently heard a lot about speed reading. So I am wondering whether this might have a similar effect.. do some of you use it What kind of books can you use it for Where did you learn it How long does it take to learn What use is it
Would greatly appreciate some comments..
Also, I have these available already, though I might buy one if it is really good.
The one from Paul Scheele (photo reading, which you can get e.g. here

I just yesterday read on Wikipedia that there are scientifically proven cases of reading 2k-4k words/minute with good comprehension. But it also says that around 1k words/minute is max for normal people.
But then, it didnt tell you which system exactly to use and how much effort to put into it to achieve this. I know I have been reading many hours for years without getting faster than 200-300 words/minute.
Still.. it sounds tempting.. 1k words/minute.. just imagine all the good books one would be able to read.
Currently, I am using AceReader Pro (most preferred, it has many exercises for "peripheral vision", if that is any good) and Readers Edge, also listening to the Evelyn Wood audio program. And trying it out on a book called "selling yourself" about NLP and Enneagrams.

This is the only one which claims that you will have higher comprehension along with higher reading speed.
What they promise is a 3 times increase in speed for a minimum.
The upper limit is 25,000 words per min, for which you 'll definitely have to train yourself hard. It will requre time and effort on your part. Furthermore, that may not be possible for everyone for certain reasons.
A word of caution: Photoreading does not mean photographic memory or something of the like. The methods will require you to make a paradigm shift in your reading methods and thought process.
Well I have started it to some extent, but still not getting enough time to invest.
I do recommend it strongly. Have faith and perseverance.
Wish you the best with your speed reading endeavour!
