Self-Development

Post by mindcontrol on Wed May 26, 2010 12:02 pm

Hello I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by the workload of self development. I have been in 4 jobs in a row where I feel I have failed or been fired. Which has made me temporary take some time off from the real world to develop myself. I am 20 year old male INFP? Anyways I would like some guidance on how I'm approaching this. I feel that I'm becoming obsessed and more problems are arising then solutions and more negative than positive.

Approach
I have researched masculinity and found these main 7 chapters and use it as a role model.
Physical
Function
Sexual
Emotional
Intellectual
Interpersonal
Other characteristics

And in these chapters I have
Understand
Solve
Practical

Understand
Understanding each chapter which also has sub chapters for example
Emotion
Disposition
Mood
Motivation
Personality
Temperament

Solve

1. Problem identification What is my concern?
2. Goal definition What do I want to achieve or change?
3. Brainstorming What can I do?
4. Consequences What might happen?
5. Decision How should I do it?
6. Implementation Do it!
7. Evaluation Did it work?

Practical
Things to do

Concerns
Life is passing me by and missing out
Focusing to much on improvement
Going in to deep to solve problem
Negative outweigh the positives such as

Negatives
Time is passing me by and not living
Losing personality and and interpersonal skills
Working at a easy job not challenging myself
etc..
Positives
Healthy, stopped smoking
Exercising
Learning and feel that I am improving the quality of life over time.

Wow thats quite a long post :D

It's easy to get overwhelmed with self development. I simply believe that whatever it is that you want to and out of life study it. That means if all of this stuff is what you want and need to improve on then start a library of this. Then get the first book and start reading.

Hello mindcontrol,

It's great you are interested in self development!
I was in your situation a couple of years ago but now i found happiness and peace. And if i can give you an advice, is to read eckhart tolle books :"the power of now" and "new earth".

i also run a blog to halp people achieving their goals and have a happy life, you can have a look there too: www.shinyjourney.Com

For me, eckhart tolle changed my life forever and i understood that awakening doesnt only come from nowhere like i used to think... I learned and i found peace, that's why i want to help people do the same.

Hope it helps,

Virginie

Life is all about living it to the full and we all want to achieve that. We only get one chance at achieving this but we can have a prosperous, healthy and happy life whatever life throws at us. Attitude has a lot to do with how we manage our lives.

Take a look at this site to find great tips for self development. http://www.ourselfdevelopment.com
