the first, become an expert is essential: generalized knowledge is not always useful. Specialized knowledge is the real valuable source of success (Napoleon Hill was passionate about this concept).
For the second part, double check everything, I can say by my personal experience, that when you are creating a project, it's really important to have a plan B. Sometimes things go wrong and having a backup plan is essential to save some situations.
