How to Get in Touch with the Right People?

Post by huggable_m on Sat Feb 20, 2010 2:23 am

This is my first post on this forum, so I'll make this an introduction as well.

My name is Igor and I am a fitness professional. I recently graduated from university. Once I was done with university, I suddenly became VERY interested in marketing and sales. I have some incredible, money-making ideas floating around in my head (thank you Jay Abraham, Gary Halbert, and others), and I am very excited to get them on the road. I looked around the forum, and I really like the atmosphere here. No profanity, no pornography, no distractions (not that there's anything wrong with any of that, but not what I would come to this forum for), just straight to the point.

With that introduction out of the way, I'll ask my specific question. So while I do have all these great, money-making ideas floating around in my head, I'm having a very difficult time getting them off the ground. I'll give you a precise example. I want to start offering corporate fitness services. Basically, I will offer personal training, or semi-private personal training for companies on-site. The question is how can I get in touch with the decision maker, and get the company to implement this???

Believe me, I've tried a lot. I'd tried cold calling, and most of the time, I either don't get an answer, I reach the secretary, I get put on hold for inordinate amounts of time, or if by some stroke of luck, I do reach the decision maker, they won't even hear me out. And trust me, I have my offer so well crafted and so irresistible that it would be ludicrous to turn it down.

I've thought about just showing up at their office unannounced to get an immediate meeting with the decision-maker (just 5-10 minutes out of respect for their time), but I'm concerned they may not be at their office (or will be too busy or pretend to be too busy to let me in), and my trip will have been for nothing (especially that since I travel by bus, a trip just about anywhere is at least an hour each way).

To say that I'm frustrated and getting to be discouraged would be an understatement. Does anyone have any ideas of how to get in touch with the right people, and furthermore, get them to hear me out?

Hi, Igor
I believe that you have to turn the "movement" direction 180 degrees. Make them come to you, not you coming to them.
I guess, the most sure way to contact them is through common acquaintances. Referring always has stronger impact comparing to ads and so...
The other way is to make a website with some free content (video session with some exercises).
One more idea... Print some brochures and leave them in some posh restaurants or any other places where such people visit. Make sure they look appropriate for the place you're going to leave them at.

Maybe you have some friends in the company, who are not decisionmakers. Get them to recommend your service to the decisionmaker.
