How to ask a girl out via facebook?

I have known this girl since high school and I seen her walk down my street for the first time in seven years. She is back in town to do her third year of med school. I always liked her and we almost hooked up in high school but became friends that lost touch ever since we went to college. Today I spoke to her in person and she seemed somewhat interested in me. I want to ask her out and the only way I can contact her is via facebook. Can any of you guys give me advice on how I can ask her out without getting her freaked out and would most likely say yes. Should I post it on her wall should I private message her? FYI I have very limited time because I will start my first year of med school on Aug 10th.
