Help me get started

Post by thepine1 on Wed Dec 23, 2009 2:24 am

Hi I'm new here and I'm just looking for some direction.

I'm currently at college studying a Building and Construction its my last year in 2010, i'm in my early 20's.

I have a difficult time trying to get the momentum to get assignments started and completed, I have an idea what to expect in life and what I need to do to achieve but thoughts and words seem easier then putting them into action..

I'm just wondering if someone can share with me there tactics in combating college/university/tafe, I'm also trying to find a self-help guru that can help me achieve my goals, I've been looking into Anthony Robbins but I'm not sure if there is any others out there that can help me in the current situation I am in at the moment.

Thanks

well i dont know whether u can call me a guru(im still a student and in late 20s doing my phd:))....but this is what i do.....i spend around 2 hours a week planning what i wish to accomplish that week ahead of me.its usually on a sunday afternoon.i set for myself realistic targets(targets are tough when u are into research, sometimes they work sometimes they dont)...then i prioritize my goals for the week and each goal is given a priority number from 1 to 5.1 being the lowest priority and 5 the highest.i being putting maximum time and energy in the following days to strike off each of the goals that i have in mind.it appears very cold and inhuman to consider reaching ur goals as tasks/plain events that u have to accomplish but remember this is the only simple way i have found to execute tasks that i might not like but have to do in order to reach my long term goals.i set for myself time limits for each task (roughly) and keep reminding myself of the task at hand.believe me this and the vision board methods work amazingly well for me.managing ur time( by spending most of it with urself doing what u have to do than with friends chitchatting etc) is very important.i spend time with my friends during lunch and occasionally go out for dinners/movies with them but majority of the time is for myself to do what i wish to do.also i have an ipod where i have loaded close to 120GB of stuff (thank you smv:)) that i keep listening when i travel from home to the univ or when i am bored.....this way i keep myself motivated to achieve my goals...

vision board: i kept thinking that this is just another fad but trust me i am always fired up because i use a vision board for the last 1 month or so.i am more oriented towards my long term goals, my thinking, options that i tend to choose from, people i wish to move with everything has changed since i began using the vision board......just ceate a vision board with teh goals for the next one year.i have categories like -health, personal, career, relationships etc.i state my goal clearly in coloured pens and put a date next to it to say when i want to achieve it. i have put it on my bedroom wall.every morning i spend 5 minutes visualising each of these goals(first thing i do in the morning) and every night before sleep i do the same.this gives me a huge incentive to go and carpe diem:)

i hope these simple methods that have worked for me might be useful to u too...
