Help & Advice

Post by koreanbaby on Thu Aug 25, 2011 4:55 pm

Not sure if I'm posting in the right area but I was wondering if some of you would be kind enough to provide some insight and advice.

I currently don't like my job (who does) - it's not so much the work because the work is really easy but it's the people and office environment. I've been in my current role for a long time and I work hard while the other people just talk and talk all day but keep complaining that they are busy so because I sit there, don't talk to them and do my work, more and more work gets "assigned" to me and I don't get any benefit out of it and they take the credit but if anything goes wrong they blame me. So that's a quick summary of my office.

Well today my manager approached me with yet, more work and realized that I wasn't happy. So my manager gave me a choice... I could do the work OR take a lay-off and gave me until Monday to think it over. Part of me is happy because I would qualify for unemployment pay for a couple of months (the money is really little) and that's actually enough for me to survive because my partner currently works and we have enough savings for one year.

I was thinking of taking the lay-off option because if I stayed eventually they would probably fire me or I'd just get so tired of them and quit. Then I would get nothing, but if I left now then I'd get that unemployment pay and could rest and recharge for like 2-3 months (focus on things like how to go about starting a business - no idea how to go about doing it but I don't want to be a wage slave for life).

What are your thoughts and advice... thanks in advance.
