ever happened to you?

Post by xeon on Tue May 11, 2010 1:45 pm

Hi,
when i watch some inspiring movie or read some book that specifically shows some positive steps for my problems,i feel exuberant and happy but at the same time i would stop right there and or would start doing something else.In the nutshell I'wd just deviate from it even for the time being.Normally any person in this case would have gone and completed the reading or viewing till its complete but not me.
does it happens to any of you? why this happens?any solutions??

Thanks & regards

Yes it happens to a lot of us, even to me sometimes. Here's why i think this happens:

1. We got the motivation to take that course but not the discipline to finish it. Motivation doesn't last more than 2-3 days, discipline lasts for a life time, think of it like a muscle, it must be trained with small weights at first then bigger and bigger :D

2. Not organized, if you're pc is a mess and don't keep track then it's a mess. Mine isn't very clean because i have a lot of files from different topics, but i use a special tool called Everything.exe, that helps me find anything i need in my pc in real time. Also very important i keep track of i've read/hear/seen in a txt file.

3. You've discovered it isn't that great, or it's not for you, then it's normal. Also if you get mad that you couldn't do some exercises like you wished (this happened to me at photo reading), your ego will put off steam and you can't concentrate on that course any more.

4. Fear. You are afraid of being too good because you might get isolated by others, it isn't true, but your subconscious mind doesn't believe that. My philosophy: " Hero or bust!" :D

Your brain tries to delete and block any kind of material that is somehow threating your sense of identity in the present time.

Try to do this:

Step 1: Locate the energy

When you read or see something that you rationally perceive as useful, you normally get an amazing feeling. I want you to sit down in a confortable chair, take some deep belly breaths, and watch exactly where are located this good feeling. Is it a refreshing sensation in your stomach? Is it a bright light in your mind's eye? Is it a sense of ease and confort in your jaw? It could be anything, just trigger the good feeling and observe where is it located.

Step 2: Project the energy

Now, take this good feeling in your body and start imagine yourself in the future with this feeling. Imagine it in the way you like the most, visualize it, hear sounds, feel touches or all of them. Imagine your self in the future with this new knowlege, happy, and vibrating the sensation captured in the step 1. Then, make the sensation more and more stronger and enjoy the experience the most! After the session, mentally say something like this:

- I am now allowing myself to learn this knowledge to improve my life and of those around me. So be it!

By doing this, you've demonstrated to your neurology that this knowledge is not harmful (because unfortunately it is perceived like that) and in fact it is really great and very useful. It will thus disarm all defense mechanisms that are preventing you to focus and to learn the material.

I cannot over-enphasize the importance of this process in my learning journey.

Note: Be flexible with your imagination, remember that your brain is trying to protect you from something. If you think that it is loneliness, project yourself with lots of good friends, old and new ones, also imagine yourself in amazing love relationships, to defuse all fear.

The tricky one usually is the sense of ''it is not me, and it is threatening my identity''. This is actually a curse, and block us from learning and growing. Imagine yourself building a dynamic and flexible identity that now incorporate these new traits.

Hope that i've helped you (and that my english is ok!) Any doubts, just ask.
