I hate TV more than anything itA s the Symbol for me beeing without any success because when I started stepping up in school a year ago I didnA t have time to learn because I was watching after lunch till afternoon it was terrible. I did this because when i watched Tv I had something to escape my currect reality which I wasnA t happy with. Very weird: For example the day before a test I would not learn i would watch Tv and the longer I watched the more pain I felt so I had to continue watching.
Aprroximately a half year ago I gave my new flat screen TV my Parents who had a very old TV, since then and IA m very glad about this I have not watched a second at home alone.
With drugs and games itA s the same you want to be in a I donA t care mentality and to stay there you have to continue.

lucid dreaming, reality control, virtual reality

Post by real on Sun Aug 24, 2008 9:46 am

Recently, I came across an interesting idea which explains why people escape the reality in games. The idea is that the control of the reality, of the world we live in is the main drive in our lives. Survival and replication are the consequence of it, not the origin. All people want to live in the world where everything happens according to their desires.

Living the life of your dreams is fun; knowing that if you want it, you will get it is exciting! All teachers inspire us to take control over our lives and help us to believe that it is possible.

However, many people live in a quiet desperation with lives happening to them. They do not have control over their lives and have lost the belief that they could have it. In modern computer games it is often about taking control over the virtual world. You are taking action and you have no fear of death; thus you are not afraid to live, not afraid to take action, although all this happens in a virtual world. Thus the hidden motivation might be something like: I have no control over my life, I cannot control the real world. But I want to have control and I know that a computer game can give it to me.

Based on this idea my theory is: as soon as you realize that you are actually in control of your world, on the path to the conscious, deliberate control of your reality you naturally loose your interest in computer games and virtual reality in general.

In context of these thoughts the idea that ability to dream at night is given to us to practice the control of realty makes sense to me. Dreams are not some sort of precognition (which discredits the interpretation of dreams by the way) or some reorganization process in your brain as the scientists try to convince us. The world of dreams is the environment without inertia, things can manifest without delay there. Taking this into consideration you can practice the skill of reality control by means of lucid dreaming.
