Book Recommendations

Post by melolas on Sun Jun 22, 2008 5:39 pm

Time for a thread with recommended books on business and finance
Any recommendations

Here is a list btw. of some of my favorite business/money related books to date:

The Monk and the Riddle by Randy Komisar
- Been a while since I read it, but have a very fond memory of it. Spiritually grounded business philosophy with practical advice on start-ups

Dot Bomb by David Kuo, Startup by Jerry Kaplan and The Nudist on the Late Shift by Po Bronson
- Great stories from Silicon Valley in the late '90s

The Millionaire Mind by Thomas Stanley
- An interesting look at the financial habits of millionaires, got me to see that being a millionaire is not necessarily a 24/7 rap video

The White Ladder diaries by Ros Jay
- The diary of a couple that decides to start their own book publishing business. Very entertaining and comforting

From Acorns by Caspian Woods, The Beermat Entrepreneur by Mike Southon and Chris West and The Entrepreneur's Book of Checklists by Robert Ashton
- Very similar books on the steps of starting your own business from idea to execution, although From Acorns is my favorite

Less is More edited by Goldian Vandenbroeck
- A collection of quotes on simplicity and voluntary poverty. Highly recommended to get a clearer perspective on money and material luxury

Here's my "Must Read" - List:

1) "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki
- The story might be fiction, but the core principles offer deep insights.

2) "The Four Hour Working Week" by Tim Ferriss
- You don't need to be a millionnaire in order to lead the corresponding lifestyle. This book is valuable in so many ways, there's not enough room here to list them.

3) "8 To Be Great" or "Stupid, Ugly, Unlucky and Rich" by Richard St. John
- Success principles. A sharp contrast compared to the touchy-feely "law-of-attraction-literature". Very much recommended as a reality check for all LOA - believers. Warning: LOA - people might not like this.

4) "Good To Great" by James Collins
- What makes a company great Recommended by many people who know what they are talking about.

5) "The Art Of The Start" by Guy Kawasaki
- How to start a company. Recommended by many people who know what they are talking about.

6) "The Blue Ocean Strategy" by W. Chan Kim & ReneA Mauborgne
- How to create a monopoly.

7) "The Power Of Full Engagement" by Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz
- Energy management. Highly recommended!

That's it for the moment.

Thanks for the recommendations! the seem like they would be very useful
Do what thy manhood bids thee do, from none but self expect applause; He noblest lives and noblest dies who makes and keeps his self-made laws.

i would definitely suggest some investing books.

Margin of Safety- Seth Klarman
-Most stolen book from libraries, used books sells for thousands on ebay, download it or find notes for it online. great book

The Intelligent Investor
-Book by the father of security analysis and value investing Benjamin Graham, "Best investing book ever written"- warren Buffett

Security Analysis
-Again by Ben Graham, more technical

-Great book on the methods of Warren Buffett

all these books are on value investing and will definitely open your eyes
