This is an old post, but I'll include some strategies that have worked for me.

I found that the high protein, lower carb approach is best for losing fat (in my experience this works better for men than for women, but bodies vary)
Eat 6 meals a day, first 3 each contains a portion of lean protein(fish, chicken, egg-white)/ carbs (oatmeal, yam, brown rice or potato) and salad or vegetables. Last 3 only the lean proteins and the salads or vegetables (california style mixed vegies work well).
Walk at least 3 times a week, increasing the intensity and duration slightly each week. If you work out in a gym, try resistance training (ask a personal trainer), and vary your cardio equipment to keep things exciting.

Have either 3 cheat meals a week or a cheat day to keep your body guessing.

All the best
